“She’s Chicken”: District Attorney Scott Colom Challenges Cindy Hyde-Smith to Debate Him in Columbus
District Attorney Colom: “She says that I’m out of touch and that’s why she doesn’t want to debate. But here’s the truth: there’s nothing out of touch with saying that we want to raise the minimum wage… There’s nothing out of touch with saying that we need to lower costs”
District Attorney Colom: “She’s trying to make it about me. She doesn’t need to debate because of me. What she’s really doing is she’s mocking you”
Hyde-Smith has not held a public town hall in more than six years, while Colom has held 50+ town halls
Challenge comes one day after Southaven businessman Mark Vines appeared with Colom highlighting how Hyde-Smith lost his vote when she voted to block the release of the Epstein files
Columbus, MS — Today, outside the WCBI TV station, U.S. Senate candidate and District Attorney Scott Colom challenged incumbent Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith to debate him in Columbus, Mississippi hosted by an outlet of her choosing.
On Tuesday in Jackson, Colom accepted invitations from two Mississippi TV stations to debate and sent Hyde-Smith’s campaign a letter asking her to respond by Friday. He also offered to debate her at the outlet of her choice. Hyde-Smith has not accepted.

Key Highlights from District Attorney Colom:
- “I’m so proud to stand in my hometown of Columbus today and say we need to have the third debate in Columbia, Mississippi. We’ll let Fox News come and co-host. I’m not scared of FoxNews. I’ll let SuperTalk come and co-host the debate. I’m not scared of Super Talk. She’s the one that’s scared. She wants to lie and hide. It’s time to demand Cindy debate…”
- “She’s trying to make it about me. She doesn’t need to debate because of me. What she’s really doing is she’s mocking you. She doesn’t want the voter to be able to ask her one question…”
- “She says that I’m out of touch and that’s why she doesn’t want to debate. But here’s the truth: there’s nothing out of touch with saying that we want to raise the minimum wage. It’s been $7.25 for too long. She’s the one out of touch. There’s nothing out of touch with saying that we need to lower costs. The tariffs and the war in Iran have been terrible for Mississippi, and she’s given away our voice. And there’s nothing out of touch about trying to save our healthcare and save our hospitals. She single-handedly voted to cut health insurance for 200,000 Mississippians, and next year, because of the Big Beautiful Betrayal, she’s going to cut health insurance for another 100,000 Mississippians. She’s gonna put eight eight rural hospitals at risk of closing. She’s the one out of touch, and she doesn’t want to answer for it…”
- “She also doesn’t want to answer for her lies. She wants to lie and hide. She’s running ads that are lying about my record. I got a 94% conviction rate. I tried 35 jury trials. I’ve only lost one. I’ve prosecuted cold cases. I’ve helped young people get their life back on track. She continues to lie and hide because she doesn’t want to face the facts. She doesn’t want reporters to be able to fact check her lies…”
